Kobudo Weaponry

Advanced Students

Kobudo is the old art of Okinawan weaponry. This type of training was traditionally taught alongside karate but in later years is sometimes taught as Kobudo on its own. Some of the weapons include Bo (rattan staff), Sai (Stabbing, striking weapon), Eku (large solid timber oar), Karma (sickle/bill tool) plus many others. This is taught alongside karate in Ballina but we also have stand alone classes for Kobudo, fitness and fighting. Sensei Jon Ellis has been taught by Hashi Howard Lipman (KIMAA) and Shihan Rick Cunningham (MOKKA) and has trained in Okinawa with Masters Hokama Sensei and Shihan Ken Agura when he has been awarded 4 Dan (4th degree black belt) in Hokama Kobudo by Tetsuhiro Hokama Sensei.
